Chiefs for Change Thanks Senate for Action to Preserve Funds that Support Educators

Chiefs for Change is grateful that the Senate appropriations subcommittee overseeing education spending has approved a bill that would provide $2.055 billion in Title II-A funding. As a bipartisan coalition of education chiefs leading state and district education systems around the country, we are grateful for the leadership of Chairman Blunt and Ranking Member Murray, and the bipartisan consensus of the subcommittee members, to maintain critical funding to support our educators.

Great teachers and leaders make great schools — and need and deserve better support than they receive today. In previous statements, we urged Congress to ensure that any FY18 spending bill includes robust funding for critical programs, like Title II-A, so that our members can continue to lead the country in using those funds effectively on behalf of the students and educators they serve. This funding represents the best hope for innovation in how teachers and principals develop their craft and serve students well.

Chiefs for Change members actively advocated to maintain Title II funding, including testifying before Congress, meeting with key Congressional staff, and writing letters to Secretary DeVos. Our members lead systems that serve more than 5.3 million students, with 330,000 teachers, that collectively receive over $270M in Title II-A funds.
