Chiefs for Change issued the following statement today from CEO Mike Magee on the news that member Lewis Ferebee has been selected as chancellor of DC Public Schools:
“Lewis Ferebee will be an outstanding chancellor for DC Public Schools (DCPS). He believes every child deserves an excellent education and has devoted his career to creating those opportunities for all families. In Indianapolis, Lewis has overseen one of the nation’s most sophisticated systems of school access. He is a leading expert on designing systems of highly autonomous schools with centralized supports. Under his leadership and through his collaboration with the city and other partners, Indianapolis has focused on improving student performance, simplified its enrollment process, and expanded transportation to provide equitable access to all schools. Lewis will work to ensure there is a high-quality option for every grade, in every neighborhood in DC and is the ideal leader for DCPS.”
