Chiefs for Change Commends Bipartisan Action in Response to COVID-19

Chiefs for Change today released the following statement in response to passage of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act in the U.S. Senate.

Chiefs for Change, a bipartisan network of state and district education leaders who oversee systems that collectively serve more than 7 million students, commends Congress for passing the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. In times of crisis, we need bold leaders to reach across the aisle and take action to meet the urgent needs of our nation’s children.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act will provide critical protections for students, families, and communities, including:

  • Expanded coverage of testing for COVID-19.
  • Flexibility for nutrition programs so schools can continue providing food to children and families who need it most.
  • Tax credits and protections for families who must care for children during school closure.

Today’s congressional action was an important step in our nationwide effort to confront the COVID-19 pandemic and its ripple effects. We call on the federal government to continue working in a bipartisan manner to provide the support children and families need in this challenging time.
