Statement on Georgia Shootings and Racist Violence

The Board of Directors of Chiefs for Change, a bipartisan network of state and district education leaders, today released the following statement on behalf of the membership.

“Racist violence against Asian people in the United States has a long and sad history and has been on the rise over the course of the pandemic. The murders of eight people in Georgia yesterday—six of whom were of Asian descent, and all but one who was a woman—are a horrifying example of a trend that weighs heavily on the AAPI students and families we serve as well as on our AAPI teachers and staff. We stand with them today and every day, committed as ever to ensuring that public schools are places of belonging and acceptance, where all students are free from fear and free to learn.”
