Dr. Heather J. Sánchez is the chief of schools for the Bellevue School District in Washington. In her role, she provides key academic and operational leadership, ensuring family and community engagement aligns with strategic and annual plans. During her five-year tenure, Dr. Sánchez has led many significant improvements, including expanding of school-based mental health services, implementing dual language programs, successful facilities capital consolidation and expansion projects. She also leads the hiring, supervision and capacity-building strategy for leaders.

Previously, Dr. Sánchez was the director of Accelerated Programs, Choice & Innovation at Lake Washington School District, where she increased student access to accelerated programs for historically underserved students by 30% year-over-year. She also initiated the district’s K-12 Innovation program, driving the implementation of several pioneering educational initiatives. As a school principal in multiple districts, Dr. Sánchez led award-winning advancements in both literacy and math outcomes and has experience implementing technology initiatives and cultivating community partnerships, both crucial elements in building inclusive and innovative learning environments.

Dr. Sánchez has served on multiple boards and committees including the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Outstanding Educator Selection Committee for 2023, the King County Regional Coalition for Affordable Housing’s Community Advisory Board for 2023, and the Riverview School District Financial Advisory Committee.

Dr. Sánchez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Western New Mexico University, a Master of Arts in K-12 Curriculum and Instruction from University of Colorado, a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from Seattle Pacific University and multiple state level certifications to include K-12 Superintendent, PreK-12 Principal and Teacher Leader.
