Luis B. Solano is the deputy superintendent of the Detroit Public Schools Community District, the largest school system in the state of Michigan serving 53,406 students across 106 schools. Under his leadership, DPSCD has increased enrollment, and improved academic performance, attendance, teacher recruitment and financial stability.

Previously, Solano served as the chief operating officer, spearheading the district’s rebuilding efforts after 17 years of state intervention. He led initiatives to revamp the district’s human resources and organizational structure, guiding it from a state of emergency management to a fully staffed and efficient operation. He also held positions at Collier County Public Schools in Florida as the associate superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

A former member of the United States Army, Solano earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Special Education from Florida International University, a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University and is finalizing his Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Assessment at the University of West Florida.
